St. Petersburg traffic police inspector undergoes surgery after assault
A St. Petersburg traffic police inspector, who was punched in the face by a passenger of a foreign car, was hospitalized for surgery.

On January 23 in St. Petersburg, a traffic police inspector was hospitalized for surgical intervention. The officer sustained serious injuries after being struck by a passenger of a Mercedes car.
According to preliminary information, the victim was diagnosed with:
- closed craniocerebral injury;
- concussion;
- bruises on the eyelids and nose;
- fracture of the orbital walls.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Shaumyan Avenue. Inspectors arrived at the scene of an accident involving a Mercedes-Benz and a Volkswagen Polo.
The Mercedes passenger, a 33-year-old citizen of Azerbaijan, got out of the car after the collision, caused a scene, and smashed the windshield of the Volkswagen.
During the conflict with the traffic police officers, he punched one of them in the face, demanding that they not file accident documents.
The attacker was detained. A report on petty hooliganism has been filed against him, and the issue of initiating a criminal case is being decided.
