St. Petersburg drug seizure linked to Chuvashia arrest

On January 31, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region reported the seizure of a large batch of synthetic drugs in a private garage on Kubinskaya Street in St. Petersburg. This operation was a continuation of an investigation that began after the detention of a suspect in Chuvashia in mid-January.
On January 16, on the M-12 «Vostok» highway, law enforcement officers stopped a car driven by a 33-year-old unemployed resident of St. Petersburg. During the search, almost two kilograms of mephedrone were found in the vehicle. A judge decided to place the detainee in a pre-trial detention center.
In the course of investigative actions, police identified the accused«s garage on Kubinskaya Street. As investigators established, the premises were specially equipped for packaging and storing prohibited substances.
During a search of the garage, several packages of narcotic substances with a total weight of over 3.7 kilograms, electronic scales, and packaging materials were recovered. The conducted examination identified 388 grams of the seized material as mephedrone. The remaining substances were sent for further research.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the detainee under the article on attempted drug trafficking on an especially large scale. Police officers are currently checking for possible accomplices and clarifying all circumstances of the unlawful activity.
