Son of Yakutsk Construction Magnate Commits Suicide in Detention

The son of a Yakutsk construction tycoon has died by suicide in a pretrial detention center, where he was held after being convicted for a shootout at a construction site.

The son of Yakutsk construction company owner Hamlet Petrosyan has committed suicide in a pretrial detention center. This information was reported to 14.RU by a source in law enforcement agencies.

The editorial office of 14.RU has requested information about the incident from the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Yakutia.

31-year-old Anushavan Petrosyan was found guilty in October 2025 of hooliganism by prior conspiracy with the use of weapons, committed by a group, and sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in a general regime colony. His relative Samvel Petrosyan was also convicted and sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in prison, according to a release from the Yakutia prosecutor«s office. That it concerns the Petrosyan family is indicated on the city court website.

On the website of the Supreme Court of Yakutia, it is reported that members of the Petrosyan family filed an appeal, and a hearing on this matter was held on 27 January 2026. The court decision has not yet been published, but the website indicates that the guilty verdict remained unchanged.

This concerns a shootout that occurred in December 2023. As stated in the republic«s prosecutor»s office release, the conflict arose due to disagreements over the quality of construction work performed. Three men conspired and, armed with firearms, went to settle scores.

Upon meeting with the workers, one of them fired twice into the air, and another struck the victim in the face several times, breaking his jaw. The workers began to run away, and one of the accused fired twice at them without aiming, hitting the left arm of one of the fleeing men. During the preliminary investigation, the men admitted their guilt.

The third in the group was 31-year-old Magomed Dzaurov, a native of Ingushetia, who was sentenced to 6 years and 6 months in a strict regime correctional colony.

Hamlet Petrosyan owns 50% of Yakutstroycity LLC, for which revenue in 2024 was zero, and the loss amounted to 210,000 rubles (about $2,100 at current rates). He also fully owns New Construction Technologies LLC, where revenue for 2024 was 9.2 million rubles (about $92,000), with a profit of 538,000 rubles (about $5,380). There is also a third company, Sterkh, for the extraction of ores and sands of precious metals, with revenue for 2025 of 9.1 million rubles (about $91,000) and profit of 668,000 rubles (about $6,700).
