Sochi Mayor Says He Controls Landslide Situation in Two Districts

Landslide debris persists at the site despite ongoing cleanup operations by crews.
Sochi Mayor Andrey Proshunin said in his Telegram channel that he continues to monitor the landslide situation in two districts of the city. However, in the footage he publishes, he is not present, nor are other responsible officials.
A tractor is present, but access to the microdistrict remains blocked by the landslide.
In the Adler district, near an apartment building on Petrozavodskaya Street, special equipment is removing landslide debris. Rescuers have cut down newly fallen and dangerously leaning trees.
— Over the past day, 90 cubic meters of soil have been removed, and we plan to remove about a hundred more today. A state of high alert remains in place here, with specialists from the district administration conducting round-the-clock monitoring and maintaining constant contact with residents, — writes Proshunin.
In the Khosta district, on the territory of the garden partnership «Korchaginets» near the «Ministerial Lakes» residential complex, equipment is also clearing the road of landslide material. This work has been ongoing since January 20, but the road to the microdistrict has not yet been opened. The mayor is hoping for the weather.
— Now in Sochi, dry and relatively warm weather has set in, which will help minimize slope saturation and ground movement. As I am informed, Sochi residents living near landslide sites are safe, and that is the main thing, — concluded Proshunin.
