Sochi court sends Kuban transport minister to pre-trial detention center

Alexei Pereverzev has held the post of transport minister for nearly nine years.
It became known on January 22 that the Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure had been detained. Alexei Pereverzev has held this post since 2015. Today, the Central District Court of Sochi granted the investigation«s request and sent him to a pre-trial detention center for 2 months — until March 19. The accused was taken into custody in the courtroom, according to the united press service of the courts of the Krasnodar Territory. Pereverzev is accused of fraud committed by an organized group or on a particularly large scale.
On January 21, the official«s home was searched, and two of his deputies — Alexei Smagliuk and Alexander Dashuk — were detained; they are also in a pre-trial detention center.
Interestingly, on the day of the searches at the transport ministry, the governor of Kuban, Veniamin Kondratyev, reappointed Pereverzev as the region«s minister of transport and road infrastructure.
Recall that Pereverzev, Dashuk, and Smagliuk are suspected of involvement in a scheme by a former State Duma deputy to divert budget funds into the shadow economy and to «seize road construction projects» in Kuban.
