Smoke at Kapitoliy Shopping Center Prompts Evacuation

Operations at the Kapitoliy shopping center in northern St. Petersburg were halted on 3 February due to smoke. Visitors and staff were quickly evacuated from the building, where several fire crews arrived on Kolomyazhsky Prospekt.
According to preliminary data, the smoke may have spread through the ventilation system. Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) personnel are inspecting the premises to determine the exact source of the smoke.
The three-story Kapitoliy shopping complex is located in the Primorsky District. It houses about 70 different businesses.
