Siren Sounded in Sverdlovsk Region as Flooding Worsens

In the village of Sloboda, Sverdlovsk Region, a siren was activated on the evening of July 20. Local residents were warned of an expanding flood zone due to water discharge from the reservoir dam.

“Today they want to release water from the dam above Sloboda, the bridge is already in bad shape,” a reader shared with E1.RU.

Flooding due to downpours persists in other areas of the region. As another reader shared with E1.RU, water has washed away the road between the city of Sysert and the settlement of Asbest.

“The situation is worsening, passage is difficult but not yet closed. Many people go there to relax at the quarries and a recreation base; the situation with passage is critical,” noted a Ural resident.

In the settlement of Lobva, plots of land and houses have completely gone underwater. Because of this, a high alert regime was introduced there.

“Local authorities didn’t even turn on street lighting. People in the dark and panic had to save their homes alone. People’s gardens completely went underwater, the entire harvest, into which so much effort and labor had been invested. But that’s not the worst. The worst are the houses full of water, some submerged almost up to the roof,” shared a local resident.

In the Pervouralsk municipal district, a threat of flooding emerged due to rising water in the floodplain of the Chusovaya River. At risk are Pervouralsk, Novoutkinsk, Bilimbai, Bitimka, and Konovalovo.

“A rescue service from the administration is on duty in Bilimbai, the situation is under control. The temporary accommodation center is fully ready to receive people. In any emergency, immediately call 112. All services are on standby,” warns the district administration.

The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry in the Sverdlovsk Region notes that in the coming days, flood zones will also expand in the municipal districts and areas of Baikalovsky, Nevyansky, Turinsky, Slobodo-Turinsky, Polevskoy, Serovsky, Sosvinsky, Severouralsky, Karpinsk, Krasnoturyinsk, Ivdel, Novolyalinsky, Degtyarsk, Tavdinsky, and the urban district of Verkh-Neyvinsky.

Recall that traffic police have introduced new restrictions on highways due to the flood. July 20, several more settlements were flooded, a dam broke in the Sysert district, and a temporary accommodation center was opened there.
