Seven children have been hospitalized in Arkhangelsk after contracting an acute intestinal infection while attending a hockey competition from Sverdlovsk Region.
The Ministry of Health reported that three children have a moderate intestinal infection, and four have a mild one.
«This is an outbreak of intestinal infection in a hockey team. The children developed vomiting, and some had diarrhea. When the infection is moderate, the patient cannot drink enough fluids on their own due to vomiting, and they have to receive intravenous fluids to prevent dehydration,»
said Alexei Aruev, head of the infectious diseases department at the Arkhangelsk Regional Children«s Hospital.
According to the doctor, there is no serious threat to the children«s health.
«It is not dangerous for the children»s lives at all. If they were in their hometown, we would hospitalize only three, and prescribe outpatient treatment for all the others. But since they are staying in a hotel, it was decided to hospitalize everyone.«
The doctor reported that the situation has been reported to the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of the Russian Federation.
«Since more than six people were infected at once, information about this outbreak is being transmitted by our regional sanitary service to Moscow.»
