Schools and kindergartens are not operating in the Pinezhsky district of the Arkhangelsk region (Pomor«e) after being left without electricity. They were not opened on February 2 due to an accident on the power grids in the Kholmogorsky district.

According to the authorities of the Pinezhsky district, all consumers in the district are without power. Repair work will begin at daylight.

«All boiler houses are switching to backup power sources. We will provide additional information about the water supply, specifically which water columns can be used,» the district administration wrote.

Residents of the district reacted negatively to the news on the social network VKontakte.

«Seriously, where are these reserves? It»s the 21st century, and we«re sitting with candles... This electricity either doesn»t work for days, or goes off at random intervals... Administration, what do you think about this? What happens next?« wrote one of the district»s residents.

«Now we»ll lose communication too. Might as well call for help,« laments another local.

«When will this end? Maybe it»s time to pay attention to the power problem and start taking at least some action?« suggests a local woman.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), in the Pinezhsky and Kholmogorsky districts, 9,171 houses housing 22,883 people, including 4,566 children, are without power. 85 socially significant facilities are also without electricity.

At the end of January, large-scale disruptions in the power supply system occurred in the neighboring Murmansk region. Due to the collapse of five pylons, Murmansk and Severomorsk were left without electricity. Specialists from Arkhangelsk were flown in to install power lines in the Arctic region.
