Schoolboy Struck by Tram in Chelyabinsk

A road traffic accident involving a minor pedestrian occurred on Saturday, January 24, in the Metallurgichesky district of Chelyabinsk.
The collision happened at 17:33 at the «Pershino» stop, located on Cherkasskaya Street. Tram car route No. 3 was moving from Metallurgov Highway towards Sverdlovsky Prospekt. The driver was a 37-year-old woman.
As later clarified by the State Traffic Inspectorate (GAI), the driver hit the pedestrian at the stop. The press service of «ChelyabGET» briefly commented on the situation: «The pedestrian ran into the tram.»
The victim was an 11-year-old child. After the incident, he was taken by an ambulance team for hospitalization. Traffic police officers were working at the scene, establishing the circumstances of what happened.
Later, around 22:15, «ChelyabGET» released footage from a video camera. The footage shows that the child was indeed running and crashed into the side of the tram.
The organization gave an additional comment: «The boy was with his mother. According to preliminary information, he did not sustain serious injuries. Nevertheless, an ambulance was called to the scene so that doctors could examine the child. But we all should understand: the outcome could have been tragic. A tram is a large, heavy vehicle that cannot stop instantly. Even a side impact on its side or a fall near the tracks is extremely dangerous.»
