Sauna fire in Kuzbass kills five teenagers

The fire started in a private sauna on Kubanskaya Street in Prokopyevsk while a group of teenagers were relaxing there. Some of them failed to escape the building, NGS42 reported on Saturday, January 31, citing a source in emergency services.

According to the publication«s source, around 8:30 PM, a fire broke out in one of the baths at »Sauna na Tsentralnoy.« A group of teenagers was there, most of whom couldn»t get out. An NGS42 source in law enforcement said that the bodies of teenagers aged 16 to 22 were allegedly found in the pool, preliminarily, they died from smoke inhalation.

Part of the building where the establishment was located collapsed. It is being checked whether there are other visitors under the rubble. Preliminary, one girl survived and is receiving assistance.

Rescuers are working at the scene, as well as representatives of law enforcement agencies. The causes of the incident are unknown. According to one version, the fire started due to the fault of the vacationers themselves. The version of faulty electrical equipment is also being considered.

Later, the deaths of the teenagers were confirmed by the prosecutor«s office of Kemerovo Oblast, a criminal case has been initiated under the article »Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements for life or health,« the investigation is under review by the prosecutor»s office of Kuzbass.

In addition to baths, the establishment provides rooms for vacationers and a pool. On the sauna«s social media, it is stated that visitors could bring alcohol and food with them, only glass containers are prohibited.

In mid-January, a client of a Novosibirsk sauna sustained a serious injury due to a slippery floor.
