Saratov bailiff accused of selling woman's only home
A bailiff arranged the sale of a home to settle a debt, the investigation alleges.
In Saratov, investigators from the Investigative Committee have completed the investigation of a criminal case against a bailiff. The woman is accused of abuse of official authority.
According to the investigation, from January to April 2023, the bailiff was handling a case to recover a loan debt from a 56-year-old woman. In violation of the law on enforcement proceedings, the bailiff organized the sale of the victim«s mortgaged real estate at a reduced price.
The sale took place without conducting a current property assessment involving a professional appraiser. As a result, the home was sold for more than 4 million rubles (about $44,400 at current rates) cheaper than its actual value. The woman lost her only home.
The investigation has gathered all necessary evidence. The criminal case has been sent to the prosecutor«s office for approval of the indictment and subsequent transfer to court.
