A diesel power station broke down in Kaktolga in the Gazimuro-Zavodsky District on January 23, leaving residents of the remote village without electricity. This was reported to Chita.Ru by a local resident, and the information was confirmed by the district head Mikhail Ishenin.

Update: An error was corrected in the news; it was previously written that the station from Budyumkan had already been delivered to Kaktolga.

“Residents are sitting without power, with temperatures outside dropping to -45 degrees Celsius (-49°F) in the mornings. There is no cellular service in the village, and the electricity comes from a diesel power station that broke down. Most of the villagers are pensioners, and how they are managing without power is unknown,” the resident said.

Mikhail Ishenin said that a working diesel power station will be delivered from the neighboring village of Budyumkan: “It will be installed and power will be restored within a few hours.”

He added that a new diesel power station is currently being purchased in Chita — it will arrive within a week.
