Primorye Health Minister Reports on Tourist Bus Crash Victims

Three of five people injured in a fatal bus crash in Primorye remain in serious condition and may be evacuated to Vladivostok for specialized care, according to the regional health minister.

Three of five people injured in a fatal accident involving a car carrier and a bus from the company «Primoavtotrans» in the Khasan district of Primorye remain in serious condition. This was reported by the region«s health minister, Yevgeny Shestopalov.

«Primoavtotrans» is one of the largest transport companies in the Far East. In 2000, the company was appointed the official carrier for regular bus routes to China and currently operates several passenger services to the following Chinese cities: Harbin, Mudanjiang, Jixi, Suifenhe, Mishan, Dongning, Yanji, Hunchun.

As of 05:20, patients in serious condition are at the Khasan Central District Hospital. They required surgical intervention, and it is possible that they may later need evacuation to Vladivostok for highly specialized care.

Two other victims were examined at the Thousand-Bed Hospital in Vladivostok. One had no injuries detected and after examination went for outpatient treatment, while the second is under doctors« supervision.

Also, a hotline for psychological support has been organized for the victims, relatives of the deceased, and participants of the accident: +7 902 480-77-15. Calls are accepted from 07:30 by a clinical psychologist.

A horrific mass accident involving a bus, a heavy truck, and at least four other cars occurred near the village of Barabash. Presumably, the King Lion bus was carrying tourists from China and collided with a FAW Jiefang car carrier driven by a Chinese citizen at the 56th kilometer.

There were 14 people inside, three of whom, including the driver and a passenger, died. After this, specialists at the Ussuriysk Central City Hospital switched to high alert to provide medical assistance.

The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements for life and health of consumers, resulting in the death of two or more persons due to negligence (Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
