On the morning of February 2, an earthquake occurred in the Sea of Azov, reported the United Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The subterranean tremors with a magnitude of 4.9 were near the coast of Crimea. It is reported that the earthquake happened at a depth of 10 kilometers and at a distance of 78 kilometers from Kerch and 35 kilometers from Shchelkino.
Recall that in November, an earthquake occurred near Sochi and Tuapse. Then it was recorded at a depth of 5 kilometers on land.
Earlier, leading research fellow of the seismic hazard laboratory at the Institute of Physics of the Earth of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Technical Sciences Alexei Morozov told whether strong earthquakes could occur in the Krasnodar Territory. According to him, weak subterranean tremors often occur in the region, and they reduce the likelihood of major earthquakes.
