Police Conduct Raid in Kalininsky District of St. Petersburg

On January 28, in the Kalininsky District of St. Petersburg, police with the support of Rosgvardia (the National Guard of Russia) and a special regiment conducted a large-scale raid involving employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate (GAI) and the Migration Issues Department.
Inspectors checked over three hundred cars and about five hundred drivers and passengers. Every fifth person checked turned out to be a foreign citizen.
«As a result of checks using information databases, ten individuals from Central Asian countries were taken to territorial police departments and held accountable for violations of migration legislation,» said the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast.
Traffic rule violators were found twice as many. Drivers received protocols for not wearing seat belts, technical faults in vehicles, and errors in transporting children. One motorist, unable to present a driver«s license, lost his car — it was sent to an impound lot.
