Employees of the St. Petersburg Committee for Environmental Management detained two violators on January 18 in a forest in the Kolpinsky district. The men were moving on foot with a firearm and dogs, tracking and taking wild animals.

As the department«s press service reported on January 26, the detainees explained to inspectors that they were heading to hunting grounds in the Leningrad region.

An administrative protocol was drawn up regarding the illegal hunting. The weapon was seized and handed over to the internal affairs authorities.

The committee reminds that there are no hunting grounds on the territory of St. Petersburg, and any hunting — amateur, commercial, or sport — in city forests is strictly prohibited. Violations entail administrative, civil, and in some cases criminal liability.

Department employees annually stop violations of hunting rules within the city. By court decision, violators may be deprived of the right to hunt.

All cases of poaching are asked to be reported immediately:

  • to the committee: 417-59-28 (on weekdays from 9:00 to 18:00),
  • to the mobile environmental duty service: 417-59-36 (24/7),
  • to emergency services by calling 112.
