The Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) reported the fire on January 28 at 6:15, and they immediately headed to the scene along with city rescue services. An interlocutor from 59.RU in the city rescue service said that cardboard boxes and wooden pallets caught fire in the warehouse.

“The flame quickly heated the load-bearing structures,” a source from 59.RU said. “All these metal beams softened at the enormous temperature and could bend. There was a threat of the entire building collapsing. Its peculiarity is that a concrete roof weighing several tons rests on these structures. The roof could collapse along with the melted beams. Due to the fire, the room became like a blast furnace, with a huge temperature at the source.”

They fought the fire until evening, and due to the firefighters« work, traffic on Dzerzhinsky Street was blocked, causing a real traffic gridlock. The traffic jam stretched to the Opera Theater, and on the rails, 39 trams came to a halt.

In the evening, our correspondent went to the fire scene — to the warehouse building. The scene resembled frames from an apocalypse movie.

Around the building lay piles of burnt and warm cardboard, firefighters continued to douse the smoldering warehouse. An excavator drove inside the premises, gathering everything into a pile. There was an acrid smell of smoke, and the heated walls crackled.

The fire was only extinguished at 19:45, according to the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations. They fought the fire for 14 hours.
