In late October, a Petersburg resident named Sergey was detained for driving a UAZ vehicle while intoxicated. He refused to admit guilt, explaining that after an accident on the Ring Road, he waited 16 hours for a traffic police inspector, got cold, and was very hungry. He ate parrot food that was in the car, containing hemp seed, assuming that this caused the presence of cannabinoids in the tests.
The judge included a photo of the packaging of this food in the case materials. Conducted tests revealed tetrahydrocannabinolic acid in Sergey«s body. This substance is not found in hemp seeds, which refuted the defendant»s version.
As a result, the man had his driver«s license revoked for 1 year and 7 months and was ordered to pay a fine of 45,000 rubles (approximately $450 at current rates). This decision was reported on January 26 in her Telegram channel by Darya Lebedeva, head of the united press service of the Petersburg courts.
