On January 23, a residential house caught fire in the village of Yelkhovy Kust in the Novomalyklinsky District of Ulyanovsk Region, the regional branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM) reported. A 65-year-old woman died in the fire. Details are being clarified, and experts are determining the cause of the blaze.

Due to persistent abnormal cold weather, many residents of Ulyanovsk are forced to use household heaters. Rescuers are reminding people once again that working electrical appliances should not be covered or left unattended. It is strictly forbidden to plug several powerful devices into one socket, as this can lead to a short circuit. For instance, on January 24, a residential house in the settlement of Bely Klyuch in the Zheleznodorozhny District of Ulyanovsk caught fire, presumably due to a short circuit. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
