The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast (GIBDD) published photos on its Telegram channel on January 24 from the scene of a traffic incident that led to an attack on an inspector.
A collision between a Volkswagen Polo and a Mercedes-Benz C250 occurred on January 23 at 8:46 on Shaumyan Avenue. The accident was minor, and no one was injured.
However, after the crash, a 33-year-old passenger of the Mercedes, a citizen of Azerbaijan, punched the windshield of the Volkswagen, leaving a noticeable mark on it.
When traffic police inspectors from the Krasnogvardeysky District arrived to document the incident, the same man struck one of the officers in the face. The policeman sustained a closed craniocerebral injury, concussion, and a fracture of the orbital walls, after which he was taken to the hospital for surgery.
The suspect was detained and taken to the police department. According to the investigation, he was under the influence of drugs. A criminal case was initiated against him for using violence against a representative of authority.
