‘Parents are very tired’: Body of Russian swimmer delivered to Moscow

The body of Moscow swimmer Nikolai Svechnikov, who died in Turkey, has been delivered to the capital, MSK1.RU learned. Exactly five months ago, he disappeared in Turkey during a swim in the Bosphorus. A headless and armless corpse was found on January 20 near the shore; before that, it had been searched for almost half a year in the strait — even with the help of psychics.
‘They (the relatives — ed.) are flying to Moscow, where they will organize the funeral. Nikolai«s body is already in Moscow. His parents are very tired. Taxi driver Tazedei Pezyul from a taxi park in Maltepe has been helping us here from day one; he drove them to the airport,’ Alena Karaman, a relative of the Svechnikov family, told MSK1.RU.
As family lawyer Alperen Chakmak said, determining the cause of death will take from three to six months. This will be difficult to do, as the body lay in water for a long time.
The deceased swimmer left behind a wife and child, and his family will seek compensation. Read all that is known about the death in our article. We also reported where exactly Nikolai was found, and looked into whether swimming across the Bosphorus is dangerous.
