Owner of Burned Hoarder Apartment Dies

The owner of an apartment on Gurvufskaya Street, where a fire broke out on the evening of February 1, has died. Firefighters who arrived at the scene found the man on a sofa and evacuated him from the burning premises, but medics were unable to save him.

According to neighbors, the deceased was over 70 years old and was named Leonid. After the death of his wife, he lived alone and for years had collected various items in his apartment, turning the home into a dump. To rescue the owner, rescuers had to overcome piles of clutter to carry him out to the stairwell.

«The fire area was 12 square meters (130 square feet). A high-pressure water hose was used to extinguish the fire. Twelve people, including two children, were evacuated via the staircases. The cause of the fire will be determined by the inquiry authorities,» said Alexei Neganov, head of the fire service duty shift.
Earlier that same day, a man and a woman died in a fire at a private house in the Urals.
