Over 50 Vehicles Collide on US Highway, Road Blocked Both Ways

Emergency services are working at the crash site.
Almost 60 vehicles collided on a highway in California. The accident occurred on the morning of January 31 at approximately 08:15 (19:15 MSK). The state highway patrol reported this.
«The patrol is at the scene of a collision involving 59 vehicles on Highway 99. The road is blocked in both directions,» according to a message from the patrol on the social network Facebook* (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
As a result of the incident, ten people were injured, with none of them sustaining serious injuries.
«Ten people were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries,» adds the local affiliate of ABC television, KFSN.
The collision was so powerful that trucks and cars damaged the concrete barrier. The highway is closed in both directions from Avenue 24 to the Kern County line.
According to police, the cause of the massive crash was thick fog, with visibility on the highway reaching only 30–60 meters. The collisions occurred simultaneously on both sides of the road.
Earlier, near the town of Zeeland, Michigan, an accident occurred involving more than 100 vehicles. In the crash, 19 people were injured. The collisions were due to icy roads. Drivers stuck on the highway were evacuated by bus to a local school.
