Orenburg Woman Wins Compensation After Giving Birth in Crashed Ambulance

The Orenburg District Court has considered a lawsuit filed by a local resident seeking compensation for moral damages. The defendant is a 36-year-old driver of a Renault Duster, whose car was involved in an accident with an ambulance in which the woman who filed the lawsuit gave birth prematurely to a girl.
As reported by 56.RU, the accident occurred on February 10, 2025, at the intersection of roads of unequal status: Orsk – Shilda – the border of Chelyabinsk Oblast – the settlement of Prigorodny in Orenburg District.
According to police, 53-year-old ambulance driver Oleg Litvinov in a UAZ vehicle was rushing from Nezhinka to the maternity hospital with flashing lights and siren activated. The driver of the Duster was traveling from Gornaya Street towards Tsentralnaya Street in the Prigorodny settlement and failed to yield the right of way.
Those injured were precisely the female driver of the Duster and the paramedic Alexey Mokshin from the special vehicle — he, despite a hand injury, successfully delivered the baby — the girl was born in the ambulance that had just been in the accident. And later, a resuscitation vehicle arrived for the paramedic and the mother.
«As a result of the accident, the birth occurred prematurely and in conditions not intended for this — directly in the ambulance, which caused the plaintiff to suffer physical and moral harm,» clarified the press service of the Orenburg District Court.
The woman sought to recover from the Renault driver, whom the Leninsky District Court of Orenburg had previously found at fault for the accident, 800,000 rubles (approximately $8,900 at current rates) in moral damages compensation and 38,000 rubles (approximately $422 at current rates) in court costs. She succeeded, but not for that amount, and not only from this woman.
«After examining all the evidence presented, the court concluded to partially satisfy the claims and jointly recovered from the at-fault party in the accident and from the ambulance service compensation for moral damages in the amount of 300,000 rubles (approximately $3,300 at current rates), as well as court costs in the amount of 20,000 rubles (approximately $222 at current rates),» reported the court.
The decision has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed.
