A 62-year-old pensioner from Omsk contacted the prosecutor«s office. He reported that while traveling in another city, he received a message from Gosuslugi, the state services portal, declaring him deceased. As a result, his bank cards and online account were blocked.

«This same information was confirmed during his personal visits to banking institutions, government agencies, and state-funded organizations. The reason for declaring the citizen dead was violations in patient identification procedures committed by healthcare institutions,» the prosecutor«s office stated.

It turned out the pensioner«s data was mistakenly entered into medical records when an ambulance brought an unidentified man to a hospital. Information about the Omsk resident also appeared on the primary medical examination certificate.

«Based on the medical documents, the civil registry office performed the state registration of death for a living person,» the report explained.

The prosecutor«s office issued a formal notice to the medical organization and filed a lawsuit to legally challenge the pensioner»s «death» and amend the documents. The court granted the claims, and the Omsk resident was also awarded compensation for moral damages amounting to 40,000 rubles (approximately $440 at current rates).
