A court has ordered the oil and gas company Stroytransneftegaz to pay 2.6 million rubles (about $29,000 at current rates) in moral damages to the family of a deceased welder. The tragedy occurred in November 2024 when a pipe fell on the man at the construction site of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline in the Lensky District of Yakutia. The deceased left behind a wife and two children. The court assessed the family«s suffering after the loss of the head of the household and set compensation: 1 million rubles (about $11,000) to the wife and 800,000 rubles (about $8,900) to each child. A representative of Stroytransneftegaz partially acknowledged the claims and stated that the company had already provided assistance in the amount of 3 million rubles (about $33,000).

Stroytransneftegaz, a joint-stock company, was founded in 2004 and is registered in St. Petersburg. The company«s general director is Daniil Shapiro. According to 2023 data, the company»s revenue amounted to 134.5 billion rubles (about $1.5 billion at current rates), with a net profit of 27 billion rubles (about $300 million).

According to a report by the Telegram channel of the united press service of the republic«s courts, in November 2025, a foreman of the company was convicted for violating safety rules during construction work, which negligently caused a person»s death. As a result, parts of the pipe fell on the welder, and he died at the scene. The court sentenced the foreman to two years of imprisonment, with a ban on holding certain positions and a probation period of 1 year and 6 months.
