On the morning of January 25, the Novorossiysk Vodokanal (Water Utility) reported that water supply was restricted due to damage to an electrical cable. 5,911 people were left without water. No information was given on when it would return.

«Restoration of the water supply will commence in working order upon completion of the electrical cable repair, in connection with which an emergency situation is not forecast,» the Municipal Unitary Enterprise Vodokanal of Novorossiysk reported.

City residents in comments under the utility«s posts are asking when the water will return. Despite officials announcing only a reduction in pressure, many have no water at all:

«Are we going back to living on a schedule again? Great. Since the start of the year we were quietly happy about having water around the clock, we didn«t tell anyone so as not to jinx it. But, apparently, the happiness was short-lived»;

«You could just give an answer about when to expect water. The reasons don«t interest us anymore, they»re almost always the same. Without it you can«t cook food, do laundry, or clean»;

«Everything ends sometime, even in your case — a 24-hour water supply.»

Water problems in the city have existed for more than a decade. It constantly disappears — due to another drought, accidents on the water mains, or attempts to repair old pipes. In this article we examine in detail what the authorities are doing to solve the problem and why it persists.
