Mother to Stand Trial for Teen's Motorcycle Crash
The first criminal case in Zabaykalsky Krai has been opened against a mother who bought her son a motorcycle and allowed him to ride it. As a result, the 13-year-old driver struck a 6-year-old boy, reports the Regional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (UMVD).
The incident occurred in the settlement of Dauria in Zabaykalsky Krai. The schoolboy riding a Racer motorcycle hit a kindergarten child, who sustained moderate injuries.
Police conducted an investigation and found that the teenager was riding with his mother«s permission; she had bought the motorcycle as a gift.
Based on materials collected by officers of the Zabaykalsky District Police Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, a criminal case has been opened against the mother under Part 1 of Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (involvement of a minor in actions dangerous to their life).
Underage motorcycle drivers were involved in five traffic accidents in Chita during April–May, with one fatality and two injuries. In April–May 2025, there were 10 such accidents in Chita, in which 8 people were injured.
For minors aged 16 to 18, 18 administrative proceedings were initiated for traffic violations during this period, compared to 21 last year.
The issue of underage riders of two-wheeled vehicles, including motorcycles, mopeds, and pit bikes, became pressing in 2023. In the summer on Novobulvarnaya Street in Chita, a Toyota Highlander collided with a BSE motorcycle. One person died in the crash, and another was hospitalized. The driver was drunk and allegedly chased the motorcycle intentionally. In 2024, teenagers held a race through the streets of Chita. This stunt was condemned by both drivers and bikers.
On the night of May 3, a fatal accident involving a teenager on a pit bike occurred near the Rainbow store on Komsomolskaya Street in Chita. The young man died at the scene from his injuries. The driver of the car involved in the collision fled the scene.
