Mother of alleged kidnapper barred from seeing daughter in detention

The mother of 18-year-old Adelina Batyrova from Surgut, who was detained as an accomplice of the «kidnappers» of a Krasnoyarsk businessman«s son, is not being allowed to see her daughter in the pre-trial detention center (SIZO). Andrey Dyachenko, the woman»s lawyer, told NGS24.RU about this, and she also recorded a video address.

The woman«s name is Ramiya Batyrova. She flew to Krasnoyarsk primarily to see her daughter. The day before, on January 30, the woman was questioned in the criminal case against Adelina, who is accused of fraud. During the interrogation, she asked the investigator for a short-term visit with the young woman.

«But orally, the investigator said that the visit would be denied,» Dyachenko told NGS24.RU. «There is still time for an official, written response, and it must be provided on February 2. But in practice, if permission for a visit is not granted immediately after the application is submitted, then most likely it will be refused. Perhaps because this is a high-profile case.»

During the interrogation, Ramiya Batyrova could not explain anything about the criminal case, as she was not aware of the circumstances and learned about what happened only after the detention, the lawyer added.

According to Andrey Dyachenko, Batyrova has older children besides Adelina, and they helped her financially to fly to Krasnoyarsk.

«She flew for an indefinite period, having taken time off from work for now. The situation is still up in the air. The main goal was to at least see her daughter, and then decide on further steps: whether to move to Krasnoyarsk for the duration of the investigation and so on,» said Dyachenko.

Ramiya Batyrova recorded a video address in which she said she wants to see Adelina.

«I really want to see my daughter, I really do. <...> My daughter was always kind, trusting, naive. A good girl, I can»t say anything bad, she was always good, all her friends loved her. <...> They already answered verbally [the investigator] that they won«t let me see my daughter. And why, no one can tell me,» she says in the video.

Moreover, according to the mother, Adelina was in a car accident in July and sustained injuries, including to her head. She needs operations «that are not performed in Surgut.»

«We are being sent to Moscow. We waited for a quota, the quota was approved, now they are waiting for us for the operation, but the child isn»t there,« said Ramiya Batyrova.

It was not possible to obtain an immediate comment from the Investigative Committee.

On the evening of January 22, the 14-year-old son of a major Krasnoyarsk businessman, Andrey Kapli, left a cottage settlement called Serebryany Bor with 18-year-old Adelina Batyrova, whom the boy did not know. They broke open safes in the house and took 2.5 million rubles (about $27,500 at current rates) from them. The young woman then handed the money over to an unfamiliar man near the «Sever» restaurant.

The fraudsters then demanded a ransom of 30 million rubles (about $330,000 at current rates) from the boy«s father. Adelina and the boy went to a rented apartment on Krasrab, where they waited for further instructions. They were found there on the evening of January 23.

As it turned out, the boy was threatened by fraudsters who forced him to take the money and stage a kidnapping. The boy told investigators that the fraudsters introduced themselves as law enforcement officers, and he himself thought he was helping his father. Adelina Batyrova also claims to have been a victim of fraudsters, but she was detained as an accomplice and placed in a pre-trial detention center. The day before, she was formally charged.
