On January 23, around 8:30 AM, a «drone threat alert» was declared in Ulyanovsk Oblast, according to the regional Emergencies Ministry (MChS). Ulyanovsk residents received SMS notifications, and mobile internet access has been limited. Security measures due to possible unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks have also been implemented in Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, and Saratov oblasts, as well as the Chuvash Republic and Mordovia. Rosaviatsiya (the Federal Air Transport Agency) reported that Penza airport halted all arrivals and departures for several hours.

Last night, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that 12 UAVs were shot down over Russian regions. In Penza, debris from a downed drone fell on an oil depot, causing a fire and several explosions. Preliminary information indicates no casualties.

On the night of January 22, air defense forces destroyed 31 unmanned aerial vehicles. The most massive UAV attack on Ulyanovsk was recorded in the summer of 2025. Read more about it here.
