Medical Helicopter Flies to Fatal Tourist Bus Crash in Primorye

A medical evacuation helicopter has flown to the Khasan district of Primorye to assist the victims of a fatal road accident on the Razdolnoye–Khasan highway. On board is a multidisciplinary team of specialists led by the chief anesthesiologist-resuscitator of the Primorye Ministry of Health, Pavel Knyazenko, the press service of the department reported.

The doctors flew to examine and, if necessary, evacuate to Vladivostok the victims of the fatal accident in the area of the village of Barabash. Three are in serious condition at the Khasan Central District Hospital.

The nature of the injuries has not been disclosed, but all three required surgical assistance. The operations were successful, but Khasan doctors warn that the patients may later require more complex treatment.

The press service of the Ministry of Health noted that the situation is under the strict control of the governor of Primorye region, Oleg Kozhemyako.

The accident occurred on the evening of January 22 on the Razdolnoye–Khasan highway near the village of Barabash. The King Lion tourist bus, carrying passengers from China, at the 56th kilometer collided with an FAW Jiefang car transporter and at least four other vehicles.

There were 14 people on the bus. According to the Primorye prosecutor«s office, three died, including the bus driver and a female passenger. Five were injured: three are in serious condition, two refused hospitalization.

Two more victims were examined at the «Tysyachekoechnaya» (Thousand-Bed) Hospital in Vladivostok: one was sent for outpatient treatment, the other remains under medical observation.

Medical institutions in the region have been put on high alert. The Ussuriysk Central City Hospital and Vladivostok Clinical Hospital No. 2 are ready to receive the victims, and teams of doctors continue to work in an enhanced mode, saving lives on the spot and en route.
