The head of Nizhny Novgorod, Yury Shalabayev, has publicly condemned teenagers engaged in hooliganism in the metro. In his Telegram channel, the mayor stated that young people are not only damaging station property but also risking their own lives and those of other passengers.

Shalabayev cited a video in which a schoolboy climbed onto a train car while it was stopped. The incident could have resulted in injuries, but fortunately did not. However, the teenager«s actions delayed the train»s departure.

According to the mayor, the youths are also organizing other risky «amusements.» For instance, they independently turn off escalators, especially during peak metro hours.

«Apparently, that»s more hype and funnier. The most dangerous part is that if the steps stop suddenly, people can lose their balance and simply start falling on top of each other, exponentially increasing the number of victims of such a «joke,»« said Shalabayev.

Furthermore, minors often draw graffiti on walls, break glass, and damage underground equipment.

«This is a signal for all of us to think and once again pay attention to our children: where they are, what they are doing, whether they want to talk about something. We will discuss with the education department how to involve schools in this matter. Auxiliary work must be done within the family,» the mayor concluded.

Earlier in Nizhny Novgorod, a New Year«s tram driver was injured due to train surfers.
