Mass Accident Sparks Massive Traffic Jam on St. Petersburg Ring Road

A series of four accidents occurred during the day on February 2 on the inner ring of the St. Petersburg Ring Road (KAD) near the interchange with Murmansk Highway. According to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) for Leningrad Region, 10 passenger cars and 5 trucks were involved in the collision.

Preliminary reports indicate that one person was injured in the incident. One of the drivers at the scene reported that a carsharing car with a girl inside was particularly severely damaged. «Wow, how the carsharing car crashed, the girl has a second injury, her head is badly cut, the roof was torn apart badly,» the source quoted him as saying.

Due to the incident, traffic on the section from the 49th to the 51st kilometer of the KAD was temporarily restricted. Vehicles could only pass through one lane. According to data from the Yandex.Traffic service, the jam on the inner ring stretched for almost 6 kilometers. A traffic jam also formed on the outer ring, but its length was approximately half as long.

Later, updated information came from emergency services. The State Institution «Lenoblpozhspas» (Leningrad Region Fire and Rescue Service) reported that the injured driver of a KIA Rio was hospitalized at Alexandrovskaya Hospital. In turn, the press service of the Leningrad Region Prosecutor«s Office stated that the Vsevolozhsk City Prosecutor»s Office has launched an investigation into the incident. According to the supervisory authority, on the 52nd kilometer of the KAD, a truck and nine passenger cars collided.
