Man grabs gold chain and flees after robbing church shop

An employee of a church shop on Kooperativnaya Street in Murmansk called the police. She reported being robbed: a man had stolen a gold chain worth 16,000 rubles (approx. $170). According to the woman, he approached the shop and expressed interest in jewelry, claiming he was looking for a gift for his beloved.
«The man asked to see one of the gold chains. The woman did not let go of the item, so the perpetrator then asked to see a pectoral cross that would best match the chosen chain. The moment the shop employee began retrieving the gold cross, the perpetrator snatched the gold chain from the display stand and hastily fled,» the regional police department reported.
The robber was quickly detained. He turned out to be an unemployed, previously convicted 38-year-old resident of Murmashi, with prior convictions for theft and infliction of grievous bodily harm. He had already managed to sell the chain and spend the money. A smartphone worth 10,000 rubles was seized from him as compensation for the damage. A criminal case has been initiated.
People often steal goods and food to resell them, which is exactly what a man who robbed a watch shop planned to do, while a perfume thief even managed to carry out her plan. In Kandalaksha, a local «Robin Hood» stole chocolate to give it away for free to passersby. And in Murmansk, a man stole expensive sausage and sold it in the city center.
