Man Detained in St. Petersburg Details Assassination Plot

The Federal Security Service (FSB) released footage of the detention in St. Petersburg of a man who is considered an agent of Ukrainian special services. In the video, disseminated on January 30 by the FSB Public Relations Center, operatives force the detainee face down into the snow and confiscate a pistol with a silencer.

The detainee stated that he himself contacted a Ukrainian handler who introduced himself as Roman. According to the man, he wanted «be useful» and agreed to carry out the task.

«The task was to eliminate the target: a serviceman, presumably a lieutenant colonel. In return, they promised a reward,» the suspect reported. According to his admission, he had a photo of the target«s car and its address.

According to FSB information, the man, who is accused of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization, managed to conduct reconnaissance near the alleged victim«s residence. The timely detention prevented the plans from being realized.
