Lathe accident severely injures turner, labor inspection investigates

On January 30, at one of the enterprises in the Novosibirsk region, a turner«s hand was caught in a lathe. The incident occurred at the Barabinsk branch of JSC Novosibirskavtodor. This was reported by the State Labor Inspection for the region.

The turner«s hand was caught in the lathe while working on boring a part. Colleagues nearby turned off the device and called an ambulance. The arriving doctors provided first aid to the victim and took him to the hospital. As a result of the accident, the turner suffered a severe injury.

«In connection with the severe accident that occurred, the inspection has initiated an immediate on-site inspection of JSC Novosibirskavtodor regarding compliance with labor legislation requirements, including occupational safety issues,» commented Vadim Balashov, head of the State Labor Inspection for the Novosibirsk region.

After the incident, a commission was formed to investigate the accident in order to establish the circumstances and causes of the worker«s injury. The materials will be sent to the investigative authorities for a procedural decision.

An NGS correspondent sent a request to JSC Novosibirskavtodor to obtain a comment on the incident. At the time of publication, no response had been received.

Earlier, NGS reported that an installer was injured at a dairy plant construction site near Novosibirsk. He fell from the fifth floor.
