Kuban Transport Minister Detained and Sent to Pretrial Detention

On 22 January, it was reported that the Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure had been detained. This post has been held by Alexey Pereverzev since 2015. He was sent to a pretrial detention center (SIZO) for 2 months — until 19 March. He is suspected under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Russian Criminal Code (large-scale fraud).
On 21 January, searches were conducted at the official«s home, and two of his deputies — Alexey Smaglyuk and Alexander Dashuk — were detained; they are also in a pretrial detention center.
Notably, on the same day as the searches at the transport ministry, the Governor of Kuban, Veniamin Kondratyev, reappointed Pereverzev to the post of Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure of the region.
It is recalled that Pereverzev, Dashuk, and Smaglyuk are suspected of involvement in a scheme by a former State Duma deputy to divert budget funds into shadow circulation and «seize road construction projects» in Kuban.
