Hospital Staff Killed in Fatal Crash in Nizhny Novgorod Region

A deadly accident on the R-159 highway has killed one hospital employee and injured others from a district medical center.

A fatal accident occurred in the Urensky District of the Nizhny Novgorod Region on the morning of Wednesday, January 21. Employees of the Tonshaevskaya Central District Hospital were injured, with one person killed, according to the regional State Labor Inspectorate.

Hospital employees were traveling for work when their vehicle was involved in the fatal collision.

The crash happened at the 185th kilometer of the R-159 highway «Nizhny Novgorod – Shakhunya – Kirov». Two passenger cars collided at the turn to the village of Zabegaikha.

One of the vehicles was carrying employees of the Tonshaevskaya Central District Hospital who were traveling on work business to Nizhny Novgorod. As a result, the 58-year-old driver died and two more people were injured. Among them was a 59-year-old nurse from the hospital. She was hospitalized with multiple injuries.

Emergency Ministry (EMERCOM) personnel were called to deal with the aftermath of the crash. The State Labor Inspectorate is now investigating the accident.

The day before, in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, another horrific accident occurred, which killed employees of the «Corporation for the Development of Industry and Entrepreneurship of the Nizhny Novgorod Region». Near Arzamas, a Škoda and a Chevrolet collided. Two people died at the scene, and another later died in the hospital.
