Home Arrest for Administration Employee After Child's Death

The court in Verkhny Ufaley chose house arrest as a preventive measure for Alena Gorokhova, head of the property relations department of the Nyazepetrovsk administration. This decision was made in connection with the death of a child in a well.
According to the investigation, Gorokhova was negligent in the performance of her official duties. Her responsibilities included identifying abandoned wells for subsequent transfer to local authorities for maintenance, but this work was not done regarding a flooded collector on Yuzhnaya Street.
«The investigator from the regional Investigative Committee requested detention as a preventive measure, but the court chose house arrest until March 28,» the press service of the Investigative Committee reported.
Under Part 2 of Article 293 of the Russian Criminal Code (negligence resulting in death due to carelessness), penalties range from forced labor to up to five years in prison.
The tragedy occurred on January 28. The child went missing on the way to school. That same day, searches began on social media, and later the body was found. The well in which he died was covered with a piece of linoleum and a layer of snow. The deceased was from a large family; the parents have two other children left. Earlier, the Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case for causing death by negligence.
