A heat network accident is threatening the ecosystem and people«s safety in the Safonova Street area of Vladivostok. Due to a rupture in a hot water supply pipe, boiling water has begun flooding the famous lake with turtles. According to local residents, the flow of hot water is rapidly melting the ice and filling the quarry.

As eyewitnesses reported, the accident occurred near houses No. 10 and 12 on Chasovitina Street on the afternoon of January 25. Hot water emerged to the surface through a sewer manhole near house No. 71 on Grizodubova Street and rushed into the nearby water body.

Residents of nearby houses assured that the water has not been shut off so far—neither in the morning nor in the afternoon were they able to reach the heat network services. City dwellers are concerned that the utility accident will harm the red-eared turtles living in the water body, which already periodically suffer from local vandals and animal abusers.

“They«re making turtle soup,” wrote local resident Elena on social media.

At the same time, a heated discussion about the water body itself has unfolded online. User Top Un reminded that this quarry has existed since tsarist times and was long replenished by rainwater runoff from the slopes of the hill. However, after the development of the area in the 1980s, according to him, the water body has been replenished by sewer ruptures and road runoff.

“Turtles never lived there. They were secretly released there by zoophiles, getting rid of voracious biting monsters that require a terrarium of at least 300 liters of clean water for home keeping,” stated a local resident.

The man also warned locals about another threat: after the discharge of boiling water, the ice may become particularly dangerous.

“Teenagers will surely be found who will jump on the ice floe: will it hold or not,” he wrote, pointing to the absence of rescue stands and elementary safety means on the shore and the improved observation platform on the lake.

City services have already responded to the situation. The Vladivostok Municipal Central Administration (MCU) reported that information about the accident has been sent to network organizations.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor«s office of the Pervomaysky District of Vladivostok has organized an inspection. Employees found that the source of the rupture is in residential building No. 11 on Safonova Street. Here, the basement is flooded, including electrical panels. The supervisory authority is also studying data on the discharge of hot water into the water body, which could potentially damage its ecosystem.

“During the inspection, a legal assessment will be given to the actions of the management and owner of the managing organization, as well as the timeliness of measures taken by housing supervision authorities. All circumstances creating a threat to the safety of citizens and the environment are being established,” reported the press service of the Primorsky Krai prosecutor«s office.
