Health ministry investigates woman's vegetative state after cesarean
In late December, 39-year-old Ksenia from Nizhny Novgorod was admitted to the maternity ward of Uren Central District Hospital for a planned cesarean section.
During the operation, the patient experienced life-threatening complications that led to clinical death for approximately ten minutes.
As reported by NN.RU, the woman«s husband Ivan Smirnov said that resuscitation efforts saved Ksenia»s life, but her brain sustained severe damage.
She is now in a vegetative state at Semashko Hospital in Nizhny Novgorod, where she was transferred the same day.
The operation was scheduled for November 25. Ivan became worried when he didn«t hear from his wife and called the maternity ward, where he was told that Ksenia was in intensive care.
According to her husband, doctors are preparing him for the possibility that his wife may remain in this state for life. The family is considering transferring her to the Federal Scientific and Clinical Center for Resuscitation and Rehabilitation in Moscow.
- «Now I have a 5-year-old child and a newborn in my hands. I»m essentially a single father. And I don«t know what to do with her,» the publication quotes Ivan.
- «I don»t know how to explain to my older son what happened to his mother. She didn«t die, but now she»s sick forever,« the man added.
The Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod Region has launched an official investigation into this incident. The department stated that the issue of providing assistance to the patient is under special supervision.
