Gas collector fire prompts cordon on Murmansk street

Special services remain at the scene of the emergency.
In Murmansk on January 28, a gas collector caught fire on Askol«dovtsev Street, and residents were evacuated from nearby buildings. The area where the emergency occurred has been cordoned off, and emergency services continue to work on site. A journalist from 51.RU, Dmitry Artyomenko, was at the scene.

«Police, ambulance, fire, and gas services are on site. They aren»t moving much, just standing and watching as they spray the gas tanker. There«s no talk yet about when residents will be allowed back into their homes,» reported Dmitry Artyomenko.

Currently, gas supply to houses No. 18 and 22 on Askol«dovtsev Street has been switched to backup lines. Residents of Askol»dovtsev, 18 were not evacuated. People remain in their apartments.
City Mayor Ivan Lebedev stated that residents will return to their homes as soon as specialists are sure the situation poses no danger. Regional authorities also reported that there is no threat of an explosion.
Those who were in the danger zone have been placed in an assistance point at the Cultural Development Center. A psychologist and medics are on duty, and people are being provided with hot meals.
Journalists from 51.RU spoke with eyewitnesses of the incident, who shared how they escaped, fearing an explosion. All current information about the emergency is being compiled in an online broadcast.
