Garden Partnership No. 3 in the Avtozavod District of Nizhny Novgorod has been under a snow blockade for a week already. Snowdrifts on the roads exceed human height, cutting off residents from hospitals, shops, and other essential facilities.

Uncleared snow prevents residents from accessing shops and medical facilities.

According to local resident Dmitry, difficulties with clearing began after the August appointment of a new board chairman. The previous leader organized the cleaning by collecting funds from gardeners, while the current one promised that the partnership would pay for the tractor work independently, but the promise has not been fulfilled.
“Snow has been falling for a week—we’ve been asking for a week to send a tractor to clear the passage. We can’t just drive out, we can’t even leave the house anymore,” Dmitry said. “In response to my complaints, the deputy chairman says: ‘Who forced you to live here?’ I am actually registered here, and not alone, but with my family.”
Due to health problems, Dmitry cannot clear the snow himself. This week, he was unable to reach a medical institution due to impassable roads.
Fire lane No. 8 is also blocked, creating a safety threat. An appeal to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) is currently under consideration, with a ten-day deadline.
For the entire current winter, according to Dmitry, the passages were cleared only twice: after the first snowfall and when the snowdrifts reached the fences.
Now, cleaning has not been carried out for seven days, making life in the partnership unbearable.
Heavy snowfalls continue in Nizhny Novgorod since the beginning of the week. According to forecasts, up to 30 centimeters (about 12 inches) of precipitation may fall in the coming weekend.
January 2026 has become the snowiest in almost 150 years, with the amount of fallen snow reaching 239% of the monthly norm.
