The incident occurred on the morning of 23 January on Shaumyan Avenue in the Krasnogvardeysky District of St. Petersburg. After a road accident, a passenger from one of the cars attacked a traffic police inspector who had arrived at the scene.
According to preliminary information, a woman driving a Volkswagen Polo collided with a stationary Mercedes C-class. A man who got out of the Mercedes started threatening the female driver and then smashed the windshield of her car.
When traffic police officers were called to the scene, the aggressor demanded that they not file the accident report. After the police refused, he punched the inspector in the face, resulting in a fracture of a facial bone in the skull.
The identity of the attacker has been established: he is a 33-year-old citizen of Azerbaijan, previously convicted for intentionally causing moderate harm to health. He was in Russia without legal grounds.
An administrative protocol has already been drawn up against the man for petty hooliganism. Currently, the issue of initiating criminal cases on the facts of property damage and use of violence against a representative of authority is being decided.
