Foreigner caught hiding in Novosibirsk after prison release

A foreign national who avoided deportation after being released from prison was detained in Novosibirsk using facial recognition technology. He will be banned from re-entering Russia.

In Novosibirsk, a foreign national was detained who was evading deportation after leaving a place of imprisonment. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) of Russia for the region.

The citizen of a neighboring country was detained on January 23 at one of the shopping centers in Novosibirsk using the Find Face biometric analytics system of the Safe City hardware-software complex. Information about his location was received by the MVD Directorate for Novosibirsk and handed over to a police patrol.

The man has now been placed in a temporary detention center for foreign nationals pending deportation. In the future, he will be banned from entering Russia.

Earlier, it was reported that Novosibirsk customs officers at Tolmachevo Airport detained a man who attempted to take 13,400 US dollars (more than 1 million rubles) out of the country.
