Flooding hits Yesaulsky after heavy rain
Floodwater from a swamp overflow inundated yards and houses in Yesaulsky.
In the village of Yesaulsky (Chelyabinsk region) on the night of 20 July, prolonged downpour caused flooding of houses. In some buildings, water filled subfloor spaces and basements; in others, it seeped into living rooms and kitchens.
Floodwater remains standing in the flooded homes and streets of Yesaulsky.
«The rain lasted two hours, the swamp overflowed,» said local resident Polina. «Water is coming out of electrical sockets, basements with winter supplies are flooded, along with gardens, garages, and cars. In some houses, beds, sofas, and other furniture are floating.»
According to residents, among the victims are large families and relatives of participants in the special military operation.
«What»s more, the swamp is located next to the Yesaulsky cemetery — it«s flooding the graves as well,» said Ruslan. «In the evening there was a heavy downpour, and the swamp overflowed its banks, flowing down the road through the village. It»s terrible! The basements in residential buildings are filled to the brim.«
Local residents have put forward several versions to explain such severe consequences of an ordinary rain. According to Polina, the large-scale flooding began after the construction of a new collector:
«Residents were promised that there would be no changes in their lives. At the same time, the problem is exacerbated by the lack of storm drainage. During heavy rainfall, the water simply has nowhere to go, causing streets and residential buildings to be flooded.»
However, the district administration does not link the flooding to the collector. In a comment, the authorities stated:
«Due to the abundant precipitation, there was flooding of several apartment buildings, private homes, and the cemetery territory. The factor of the construction of a new collector as a cause of flooding is not confirmed. To assess the situation and determine the exact causes of flooding, administration specialists have been dispatched to the site.»
The authorities promised to provide assistance to residents. «Continuous monitoring of water levels is currently underway, water drainage work has been organized, and the operation of storm drains and water discharge systems is being monitored. Additionally, water pumping is planned, and, if necessary, temporary drainage channels will be installed,» the administration listed.
In case of emergencies, residents can contact the Unified Duty Dispatch Service at 112 or (35144) 3-22-91.
The situation has also been taken under control by the prosecutor«s office. Senior Assistant to the Regional Prosecutor Natalya Mamaeva reported:
»An inspection has been organized to ensure compliance with federal legislation, including the causes and conditions of the situation that led to the flooding.«
Last week, similar flooding was recorded in Verkhny Ufaley.
