Five die in sauna fire in Kuzbass, bodies discovered in pool
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire that broke out in a private sauna.
In Kemerovo Oblast, five people died during a fire in a sauna. As reported by our colleagues from NGS42.RU citing a source in law enforcement agencies, their bodies were allegedly found in a pool. According to preliminary data, the cause of death was smoke inhalation.
The fire occurred in a private sauna on Kubanskaya Street in Prokopyevsk at a time when a group of teenagers was relaxing there. Some of them failed to leave the building in time; the deceased are aged 16 to 22. Most of the victims are girls.
Rescuers are working at the scene, as well as representatives of law enforcement agencies. The causes of the incident are unknown; according to one version, the fire started due to the fault of the vacationers themselves. The version of faulty electrical equipment is also being considered.
According to the Kuzbass Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), extinguishing the fire took about an hour; dousing and inspection of the premises are being carried out. Preliminary reports indicate that a girl was rescued from the building and is receiving medical assistance.
As clarified by a source, part of the building where the establishment was located collapsed.
Investigators have opened a criminal case under the article «Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements for life or health»; the investigation is under review by the prosecutor«s office of Kuzbass. Forensic experts are working at the scene, and a number of examinations have been appointed.
