Fire on Peterhof Highway Prompts Evacuation of 20 Including Children

The fire started in a three-room apartment on the fourth floor of a nine-story building at 7 Peterhof Highway in the Krasnoselsky District of St. Petersburg.
The Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) for the city published photos showing the aftermath: inside the apartment, one of the rooms was completely burnt out, with only fragments of wallpaper remaining, and outside, extensive black soot is visible running from the fourth-floor windows up the facade.
Firefighters, who arrived at the scene around 10 a.m., rescued two men from the source of the fire and also evacuated a woman from the apartment on the floor above.
Using rescue equipment, thirteen more adults and four young children were led out of the danger zone.
The fire was localized and extinguished within an hour.
The cause of the incident is being established by EMERCOM inquiry officers.
According to information from the Investigative Journalism Agency, an elderly woman and two men were injured as a result of the incident, with one of them in serious condition.
