Fire in Zelenodolsk Dormitory Kills Three Neighbors

Firefighters responded to a blaze that ignited in a room of a Zelenodolsk dormitory.
A room caught fire in a dormitory on Chapayev Street in Zelenodolsk. Two men and a woman died in the fire. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) for Tatarstan.
Rescuers saved nine individuals, including children, from the burning dormitory building.
27 rescuers and 7 pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire in the 9-story building and evacuating people. Nine people were pulled from the burning building, including two children.
The identities of the deceased are being established. They were neighbors to each other, as clarified to a 116.RU correspondent by the Main Directorate of EMERCOM for the Republic of Tatarstan. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Supervision inquiry officers.
Update at 10:51: According to the Investigative Committee, the tragedy may have occurred due to carelessness while smoking. All three were poisoned by carbon monoxide. Investigators have opened a criminal case for causing death by negligence.
On January 20, in Kazan, a fire broke out in the under-construction building of City Hospital No. 18. 136 people, including medical staff, were evacuated from the upper floors.
